We are going to dye clothes with plants, you guys! Kelly Hough from Annapolis County, Nova Scotia is coming to teach us how to create our own bandana or scarf with natural dyes. She is a fiber farmer and an artist, and has tons of experience to share with everyone. Follow her Instagram account @kellynhough_maker.
You will learn about plants and other natural items that can be foraged or grown for the purpose of dyeing. We will learn about the fibers and fabrics used, the process of dyeing a garment with natural ingredients, solids vs. tie dye, and we will execute our own project with some fun little dyed fibre pieces to continue the fun at home.

EDIBLE PLANTS & SEAWEEDS: Foraging & ID Workshop
Saturday August 17, 2024 10am-2ish
Sarah Robinson is coming back for the 3rd year in a row to talk about ID’ing and foraging from plants and trees in multiple landscapes. We will start our day at Wreck Cove Wilderness Cabins in a more forested environment, and end our day looking at coastal plant life and seaweeds at a beach nearby. We will be snacking and sipping on refreshments throughout the day made from foraged inspirations and ingredients of both plant and seaweed varieties.
Sarah is bringing her friend Sally Jo who is a homesteader who will talk about pollinators and other insects. Jay will talk with you about edible seaweeds and show you samples. You will learn about how to approach foraging safely and ID’ing tricks for plants, trees and seaweeds. You will learn about preserving edible plants, have the opportunity to ask any questions, and share your methods with others for your own creations.
